Barcelona Food Guide

Barcelona

The city of Barcelona is huge, leaving a margin of error in food quality as with all highly touristic cities, but good food does exist at reasonable prices.  To save money and get better food seek out the eateries off the beaten path (or in the primary tourist locations), such as cafes and restaurants where the locals frequent.  Take time to hunt for the best meals in Barcelona with your own Barcelona car hire.

Its common to find a menu of the day in most places, which usually means a fresh made two course meal, or 3 to 4 options served with a drink and dessert, depending on the restaurant.  A good way to save on the hip places is to visit for their lunch specials between 2PM and 4PM.

Barcelona gastronomy

You can get food from any part of the world in Barcelona, but make sure you try some Catalan food.  Catalans generally eat three course meals (appetizer, main dish, and dessert).  The area's counterpart to the Andalusian tapa is the Pintxos, although tapas dining has become a new trend in Barcelona.

As you travel around to the smaller towns around Barcelona in your Barcelona rental car it is less likely that you will find tapas and more likely you will see restaurants serving traditional Catalan food in three courses.

During your stay you should also try some of the excellent seafood or a mouth watering waffle sold at a street stand.
