Arago Street dates back to 1863, and was created as part of Ildefons Cerdà's urban plan, beginning as L Street in 1867.  The name Carrer d'Aragó harks back a reference to the Crown of Aragon.  Called Calle de Aragón in Spanish, it starts in Carrer de Tarragona and becomes Rambla de Guipúscoa at the intersection with Carrer de Lope de Vega.

When traveling along Arago Street you will want to have the freedom of a car hire so that you can stop at the many interesting places along the way.  On Arago Street you can find the Església de la Concepció.  This Gothic church dates back to the 13th century, it was originally located in Via Laietana (district of Ciutat Valla).  The church was moved to Arago Street in several stages over a period of ten years, from 1869 to 1879.

Also notable is the Mercat de la Concepció, the oldest market in the district of Eixample.  This market was built in 1888 by Antoni Rovira i Trias.  Arago Street is where you can find the Eixample district council.
