Sitges

Outside of Barcelona, the city of Sitges in Catalonia, Spain is a huge attraction for tourists by car hire. World renowned for its Film Festival and Carnival, Sitges also features excellent beaches, nightspots, and historical sites.  Located only 35 km southwest of Barcelona, it is an easy day trip in a car hire from Barcelona, or as a destination on its own.

The film industry and the tourism it has brought to Sitges have developed the city into a first-class destination in terms of tourism of congresses, conferences, seminars, and company meetings in the Mediterranean area.

Sitges has hosted one of the world's most amazing Carnivals every February and March for over a Century.  The festivities begin on Dijous Gras, or Fat Thursday.  The celebrations are fun for young and old, and there are even special Carnival Parades for the kiddies on Sunday and Tuesday afternoons.  The Carnival also features Folk dances and xatonades (traditional local salad served with assorted omelets), and several very worth while parades.

No visit to Sitges would be complete without checking out its museums, guided tours or taking a walk around the old quarter.  One interesting museum is the Maricel Musuem, built by the American Charles Deering to house his art collection.  The building is notable for its adorable small sculptures adorning columns on its exterior.
