Stone tools and fossils have been found in Terrassa dating back 800,000 years, making it one of the oldest prehistoric sites in Europe.  

Aside from its stunning views of the neighboring mountains, Terrassa has many sites worth stopping for.  It features three monumental churches which were built close to the historic site of the old Ègara Diocese, which was founded around the year 450 and lasted until the 8th century.  These are Santa Maria (Saint Mary), Sant Pere (Saint Peter), and Sant Miquel (Saint Michael).  Each features pieces and architecture dating as far back as the 6th century, as well as outstanding Romanesque designs from the Byzantine and Visigothic periods.

Terrassa is easy to get to from Barcelona by car hire, whether you arrive by boat at the port in Barcelona or the airport.  The C-58 and C-16 also link the city with the interior (Manresa), the north (Girona and France), and the south (Tarragona).
